Not just a simple splitter.

VentMI™ (VENTilate Multiple Individuals) is the first ventilator splitting system to allow individualized pressure control to both patients. Unlike simple splitters, which only allow each patient to share the same pressure settings, VentMI™ allows each patient to receive unique pressure settings. While a ventilator should only be shared between two patients in an emergency, the VentMI™ system’s ability to control pressure through the ventilatory circuit can help return some of the control healthcare professionals are accustomed to.

Medical-grade materials and machining

Constructed of medical-grade aluminum and plastics, VentMI™ has been designed to work with ISO standard respiratory connections. These connections allow for rapid installation by a trained professional with viral and bacterial filter attachment. Designed to be quick to manufacture, VentMI™ can be rapidly deployed when standard ventilator resources are exhausted and ventilator splitting becomes necessary.

How VentMI™ works

VentMI™ has been designed to work with tube sizes common to most ventilation systems. After plugging in splitters on both the inspiratory and expiratory ports, alongside your viral filters, the VentMI™ PIP and PEEP regulators go into place. Comprised of precision-machined components, these two devices help regulate the peak inspiratory and peak expiratory pressure of one of the patients on your split ventilator, while the ventilator is allowed to control the other patient. Controlling the pressure delivery to the patient on the VentMI™ circuit is done through turning the knob either clock-wise or counter-clockwise. Giving this control, which is lost using only a splitter, allows for an individualized care-plan in an emergency split ventilation situation.

VentMI™ and FDA Approval

Makemedical™ has received emergency use authorization from the U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) for VentMI™. Emergency use authorization is designed to offer critical care patients access to a medical device that has not gone through normal FDA approval; this is only used when no comparable or satisfactory alternative options are available.
